Every year, the Pioneer Theatre Guild runs a Future Stars talent show for people to enjoy. Unfortunately, due to COVID, they’ll have to run the show a little differently this year.
To encourage children to continue their passions in the arts, the Future Stars 2021 is set to happen virtually this year. All performances for the citywide FutureStars talent show will be performed virtually. All 19 solo performances will be pre-recorded onstage at the Pioneer High School’s Schreiber Auditorium, where the show has been held previously. The recording will be done with strict social distancing guidelines and safety protocols to ensure everyone’s safety. Each song will be presented virtually to a panel of judges, who will then decide on the Top 5 performances of the night.
The judges this year will include Tree Town Sound host Matthew Altruda, singer-songwriter, and comedian Camila Ballario, Opera singer and cast member of HAMILTON’s National Tour Jonathan Christopher, Ann Arbor’s Mayor Christopher Taylor, Broadway producer, and U-M musical theatre alum Thomas Laub, and TV and Broadway actress Ashley Park. After the judges vote on the Top 5 performances of the night, a vote will be taken to determine the winner.
Additionally, the streaming show will showcase performances by the RisingStars — a group of Freshmen and Sophomores — and entertainment will be provided throughout the night by student hosts. Pioneer Theatre Guild’s band of professionals will pre-record accompaniment tracks for students to perform to, which you’re bound to see as the night progresses.
